History of N.A.L.G. Ireland

N.A.L.G. Ireland ……………..the beginning

In 1985 one of our founder members, Ron Attwooll wished to participate in the 4th World Left-Handed Tournament which was being held in Canada.   All participants had to be members of a National Association of Left-Handed Golfers.

Since no such association was in existence in Ireland, he had to join The British Association.  On his return from Canada he set about starting a Left Handers Association here.

After a public meeting in Galway our Association was formed in 1986.   Following the success of the 6th World Left-Handers Tournament in Galway in 1990 all golf clubs in the country were contacted with a view of identifying all left-handed golfers in Ireland.  A register of left-handers was produced.   This formed the core membership of our Association.

We have a core membership of 300 from clubs all over the country.   We only cater for male golfers, but did assist in the formation of an Association for Lady Left-Handers some years ago.   The present status of this association is not known.
